Shomrei Torah Religious School is a warm, lively place
where children from Kindergarten through Grade 7 explore the
many facets of Judaism and experience the beauty and richness
of their heritage. Our curriculum, while rooted in Jewish
tradition, is fun and innovative. We strive to create a
community within each class and in the school as a whole.
During a typical afternoon session, you will find
students involved in a variety of meaningful and engaging
activities. Students practice Hebrew, read and learn
traditional prayers, and listen to and act out Bible stories.
They discuss Jewish current events, ethical dilemmas, and
core Jewish values. Students plan a service project or make
gifts for community elders, or rehearse a skit or musical
production for a holiday celebration. They study with Rabbi George,
talk about God and personal prayer, cook something
delicious, make a beautiful ritual object, or work on articles and
drawings for a school newsletter. Students check out books
and tapes from the children's library, participate in
Israeli folk dancing, play basketball or jump rope together,
then perhaps lead a Shabbat service or Havdalah ceremony.
Our team of teachers includes native Hebrew speakers and
specialists in the creative arts. Our teachers share a
love of Judaism and commitment to providing wide-ranging
learning opportunities for all students.
School meets on Saturday afternoons (Kindergarten through
Grade 6) and Wednesday afternoons (Grades 4 through 6) from
September through May.
Grade 7 meets two Mondays per month. Most 7th Graders are
also in Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation which runs on Wednesday
afternoons year-round.
We welcome parent participation as we continue to develop
