Congregration Shomrei Torah co-hosts Chaverim, an exciting new program for Sonoma County teens. Chaverim is a unique venue for social and educational events that inspire involvement in Jewish life. Members meet twice monthly for a director-led peer dinner discussion centered around Jewish ethical topics relating to teens. Teens also meet monthly for social and community events: camping, skiing, dances, services and social action.

Jewbilee: Boston, January 1416, 2011

Jewbilee is an amazing traveling and learning opportunity that is short in duration but powerful in gaining skills, building friendships and stimulating thought. Students from all over the country will come together to exchange ideas about identity and community and develop and grow their leadership skills. While the workshops are fantastic, there's also room for tours to Harvard University, ice skating and other fun activities. Be a part of a diverse group of Jewish students, friends and allies from around the country and make an impact on your community. Rick Concoff attended this event last year to get a sense of it, and two Juniors attended it the year before. We all brought home rich new insights and ideas to share with our own communities. Rick will be attending and presenting at this year's event. Space is limited. Visit the JCC web site for more information.

Message from Rick Concoff
Chaverim Director

Chaverim, the program for Sonoma Countys Jewish teens, is off to a new and exciting start this year. Nearly 80 teens attended Chaverims kickoff event at Camp Newman, which featured swimming, hiking and a great lunch. The Chaverim campout at the Russian River was also wonderful a lazy afternoon of swimming, an unexpected and exciting thunderstorm, and lots of leisure time! We also had a great Shabbat service, focusing on the meaning of Shema and the Days of Awe.

We are looking forward to our twicemonthly dinner discussions, hosted by Congregations Shomrei Torah and Beth Ami. Bowling, a trip to Jewish San Francisco and other events will be offered throughout the year, as well. Thanks to the Jewish Community Federation, and to our new sponsor, the Jewish Community Center of Sonoma County, for your support.
